The role
The Service Manager is the link between us and our customers and ensures the successful day-to-day deliveries. The Service Manager is the team lead for our customer teams and the position requires a strong drive and quality focus, as well as high ability to coordinate several simultaneous activities and resources from different departments. Gaining customer trust is key in sucessful Service Delivery and it is therefore essential to understand the customer’s business, identify development opportunities and initiate proactive measures to continously improve customer value.

Preferably you feel comfortable with the following areas of responsibility:

  • be responsible for changes as Change Manager
  • cooperating with our sales team and participate in negotiations when needed
  • ensure the production and maintenance of documentation for the customers systems
  • following up on customers’ SLA
  • identifying and coordinating changes in order to improve the service quality, operational efficiency and realize additional sales to existing customers
  • optimizing the billing rate and contributing to developing the business
     

We are looking for
Someone who has extensive experience from the IT industry in general and IT Service Management (ITSM) specifically, working with mid-size customers and with a strong passion for customer satisfaction. It is valuable if you have experience from project management and the ITIL process framwork. It is also valuable if you have experience from working with public services or the financial sector.

Furthermore, we belive that you have:

  • at least 2 years experience from a team leading or a managing position
  • excellent language skills in written and spoken Swedish and English
  • excellent people skills

Software Developer - Oslo

The development team at Basefarm has too much work to finish it all. Are you our new colleague?

Our story
We might work a bit differently than developers do in other companies since we call ourselves self-organizing and agile. We have management backing for this since they want us to be able to change our plans fast, they trust us, and they want stuff that works reliably and which is delivered as soon as it provides business value.

We don't own any particular piece of the codebase as individuals, but work on the parts that need improvement. We make an application for our users, so we end up making the front- and backend ourselves, even if we try to buy as much as we can off the shelf. The team are all generalists, and we think you are too. At the moment, we are six people including our development department manager.

We make the provisioning automation tooling for Basefarm, which handles more than 400MNOK of revenue each year. This means that we get to deal with both cloud technologies and several very costly machine rooms. It is really important that our stuff works reliably, and when it breaks it should break in such a way that it doesn't disrupt customer service. Our application is automatically and immediately installed in production once something is finished, so if you won't write automated tests this is not the team for you. We are very proud that we have very few functional regressions in production.

All the code we write is either pair programmed or code reviewed. This is because we have security-sensitive customers, and we want to ensure that what we make is able to pass a security audit.

We lean towards not using many "frameworks" because we think they often take away more than they provide, but when we are able to persuade ourselves they provide value, we use them.

Our DNA
In our team, we have a code of conduct and everyone on the team is responsible for enforcing this:

  • We listen to each other; everyone should be able to ask and offer help; it is ok to make mistakes;
  • when we disagree we try to disagree on things that are important;
  • everyone on the team must be able to understand new technologies and techniques when they are introduced;
  • and we don't talk about people not present because that robs them of the ability to improve.

Once you become part of the team, we would like to talk to you about this code of conduct and possibly change it based on our discussion.

Who you are
We expect a degree of independence in how you work, dependent on your experience level. You have to be willing to work with Scala because our application is written in Scala. You are able to talk about things using words like "because" and "so that". We like those words. They make it easy for us to avoid misunderstandings. Other than that, we are not sure. 

You have knowledge of at least some of the following:

  • the JVM
  • SQL
  • web-type front end technologies
  • REST, web services, message queues or similar integration technologies
  • linux and using command lines to configure systems

You are able to communicate in English because Basefarm is an international company, and you have a goal of knowing Norwegian within two years if you don't already. You might be asked to travel infrequently, but you will work in Nydalen in Oslo. You are able to talk to stakeholders in and outside of Basefarm so that what we make is useful. We understand that what we are asking here is hard; we like to sit down and write code without interruptions, too. We do not think you will work remotely because that would rob us of the opportunity of learning from you, and it would mean we would have to talk to stakeholders on your behalf.

Tasks
As Application Operation technician you will perform activities in application management for Basefarms customers. Your main task is to handle the daily operations of all systems, internally as well as externally.

You will also work proactive regarding the central systems but also with incidents and further development. You will work with maintaining a reliable environment, through among other things support the customer in the implementation of system changes, upgrades and implementations. You will be the first point of contact and we are therefore thinking it is important that you are passionate about the customer dialogue as well as troubleshooting.

Among other tasks, you will:

  • Work with installation and upgrades of patches and also with configuration changes
  • Work with application solutions and webservers on different platforms
  • Work with troubleshooting: perform failure analysis to find the underlying cause and/or give suggestions on a temporary solution
  • Work with monitoring and maintenance of systems, e.g. fine-tuning databases, archive and clean up etc.


You will be working with one of Europe’s most successful business critical applications and large customers in various different businesses like Coop medmera, Collector, 1177 Vårdguiden, Cmore, Tv4, SBAB, Payex and Altinn. Working in Operations Center will mean that you will be in contact with almost the completely operating platform of Basefarm.
